Girls Empowered to Model Success (G.E.M.S.)
G.E.M.S. (Girls Empowered to Model Success) is a social, emotional, and developmental leadership program for girls ages 13-18. The primary goal of GEMS is to help girls become confident, empowered, and self-motivated leaders by providing opportunities that will allow them to assess their inner strengths and evaluate their decision making skills and goal setting behaviors. Through peer support groups, personal goal setting, peer and adult mentoring, cultural based activities, and a variety of community based activities, GEMS girls practice important skills including effective listening, communicating skills, critical thinking skills, goal setting, and sound decision making. GEMS girls learn appropriate social and critical thinking skills to assist them in avoiding negative tracks such as teenage pregnancy, dropping out of school, and creating ongoing family conflict.
